How To Keep My Landscape Lighting Clean and Shining Brilliantly

In North Carolina’s pollen-heavy spring, you may find your outdoor lights coated in green dust. But, they don’t have to stay that way. We have landscape lighting cleaning tips you can use:

Whether you are enjoying an Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Wilmington landscape lighting system or one installed by someone else, we invite you to purchase an Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP). The plan exists to help homeowners keep their landscape lighting system working properly and looking amazing. One of the underestimated tasks we take on is cleaning your lenses and fixtures. Cleaning lights ensure they are putting out the correct light – maintaining the integrity of your landscape lighting design.

But, we know that even with an AMP, there are times when your lights need immediate cleaning between our visits to your home. If that is the case, follow the instructions below:

Cleaning Landscape Lighting Lenses

Carefully remove the lenses from the fixture so you can clean them inside and out for accurate light output. If spraying your lens down with a garden hose and wiping it doesn’t do the trick, you can use extremely fine wool (#0000) to rub the lens in a circular motion until the grime is removed. Follow that by a soft, clean cloth. Then carefully replace the lenses once they are dry.

Cleaning Landscape Lighting Fixtures

Start by turning your lighting system off.

If there are any exposed bulbs, remove them for safety.

Cut a lemon in half, dip it into salt, and scrub the copper with the salty lemon. It will loosen tarnish and stains.

Once complete, use a damp rag to remove the lemon juice and salt and if you need to you can use a damp sponge to finish cleaning the copper fixture. If you’d like, you can use copper polish on the fixture after it is clean. Copper polish is easy to find at the store.

Let the fixture dry completely before putting any removed bulbs back. And wait a few hours to turn them on just in case there is condensation that needs to dry.

Buy an Annual Maintenance Plan

If that sounds like way too much work, remember, we offer an annual maintenance plan. Having an AMP means we’ll keep your lighting looking 100% through maintenance, cleaning, and adjustments. Having our AMP means that as long as you keep your AMP active, you’ll never have to pay us for a service call when a light is out or a bulb needs replacing. If you don’t have an AMP, bulb replacements and other troubleshooting will require a minimum of a one-hour service fee.
